Meeting the Makers in Tamil Nadu

From Kerala we travelled on to Tamil Nadu, where the trip shifted from reflection to revelation. This was the part of the journey we'd been building towards: visiting our production partners and finally seeing, in person, the hands and hearts behind every Yogamatters prop.

There is something profoundly different about witnessing a process versus simply knowing it happens. We watched fabric being woven, saw pieces sewn together with quiet precision, and stood in workshops where our products are patiently assembled, stage by stage, by people who take real pride in their craft. Meeting the artisans - the people sewing, weaving, and building the very products so many of us reach for in our practice every day.

We talked, laughed and shared meals with people we’d known for years through emails and video calls, but were meeting in person for the first time. 

When we returned home, we brought back far more than photographs and memories. We came back with a deeper understanding of the people behind our products, a renewed appreciation for the relationships we’ve built over many years, and an even greater respect for the traditions and craftsmanship that continue to inspire our work. 

Capturing It All

We were lucky enough to work with a wonderful local Indian photographer Anupam Diwan to document the production side of the trip - the workshops, the makers, and the process itself. Their eye for detail, and for the moments we might have missed ourselves. 

These photographs tell the story far better than we ever could, revealing the care that sits behind every prop long before it reaches a yoga studio or finds its place in someone’s home.
