Thirty years feels less like an anniversary and more like a moment to say thank you.
Not because Yogamatters has reached a milestone, but because so many people have shaped what it has become. Teachers who have shared their wisdom. Customers who have trusted us with their practice. Makers and partners who have become friends. Team members, past and present, whose care and commitment have left their mark. This story belongs to all of them.
I didn't found Yogamatters. I joined the business as Managing Director in 2014, almost halfway through its story. It was already deeply valued by the community it served, and I was entrusted with helping lead it through its next chapter. Although my role has changed over the years, one thing hasn't: my respect for what came before me, and my responsibility to help carry it forward.
The world around yoga has changed enormously over the past three decades, and so have we. But when I think about what has endured, it isn't products or trends that come to mind. It's the reasons people come to yoga in the first place: to find a little more balance, connection and space to simply be. Those are the things we've always hoped to support, and they matter just as much today as they ever have.
One of the greatest privileges of these past years has been building relationships with our partners and makers in India, where so much of yoga's heritage lives. Earlier this year, our whole team travelled there together - to connect. It was a humbling reminder that no matter how long we've been part of this community, we are still students.
So while we're marking thirty years, this has never felt like a celebration of the business alone. It's a celebration of every person who has been part of its story, and everyone who will become part of it in the years ahead.
Thank you for allowing Yogamatters to be part of your practice. We never take that trust for granted.
With gratitude,
Twanna
P.S. As we celebrate this milestone, I'd also like to acknowledge Paul Walker, who founded Yogamatters in 1996 and invited me to join the business in 2014. I'm deeply grateful for the trust he placed in me, and for the values he established from the very beginning. I know many of you will remember Paul with warmth and affection. It feels only right to honour his contribution as we celebrate thirty years of Yogamatters.
