We caught up with Angela to learn more about her background and practices…

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I am a yoga/meditation teacher and a mental health counsellor and have a business offering these practices called in bloom. I am also a student currently doing a masters in psychodynamic counselling. I am passionate about exploring new ways to move my body and stimulate my mind, and I love to learn and grow with and from those around me ?

What does a typical day look like for you?

Most days start with a stretch, a meditation and a coffee. All days include a bike ride somewhere in London to teach a class, get on a train to uni or be a student in some kind of movement session. Right now, my days are broken up with business admin, school work, and a lot of physical movement (teaching or playing :))

How did your yoga journey begin and what inspired you to become a yoga teacher?

My journey began back in Toronto mostly with self practice as a way to quiet my mind. When I moved to London and started attending classes in person I became really drawn to finding ways to create a better relationship with my body and today both of these motivators still inspire and ground my practice. I became a teacher unintentionally. When I finished my training which I did for myself, I decided that this was too beneficial a practice to not try to contribute to the sharing of it. I am extremely blessed that I get to do this everyday.

What inspired you to specialise in mental health and movement?

I have been working in mental health since 2010 and am, and always have been, passionate about supporting others with their mental health in an accessible way. For me, the idea of self soothing is unbelievably important in being able to offer that support. I feel that sharing these practices is a self soothing tool that I get to utilise and it allows me to constantly stay inspired by those who I get to share space with.

How have you seen your specialism in mental and movement benefit your students?

Having movement and mental health seen as things that should work synergistically is something I prioritise in my work. Holding space for people to build a stronger awareness of their mind body connection and create a new, or challenge an old narrative is something that I see constantly at play in my sessions. I have seen low mood, lack of confidence, negative self speak and so on be alleviated through body work and compassion that is experience in a yoga.

What is your favorite quote or life motto?

‘Who you are in life reflects the company you keep’ rafael Casal

Or ‘output over outcome’
