When we visited Tamil Nadu earlier this year, we had the opportunity to meet some of the people who weave the fabric that makes our mats. The first thing we noticed wasn’t the looms. It was the rhythm. The steady movement of experienced hands. The quiet concentration. The confidence that comes from practising the same craft, day after day, year after year.
Watching the fabric slowly emerge gave us a new appreciation for something we’d always known, but never fully understood: good weaving isn’t simply about making fabric. It’s about creating something that will be lived with.
