    Instructions
    • Begin standing tall in Mountain Pose
    • Shift weight into your left foot and draw the right knee toward the chest
    • Hook the first two fingers of your right hand around your big toe (or hold the shin)
    • Inhale to lengthen the spine; exhale to extend the right leg forward, keeping it as straight as is comfortable
    • For the side variation, open the leg to the right while keeping the hips square
    • Keep the standing leg strong, lifting through the kneecap
    • Gaze forward for balance, or to the side in the open-hip variation
    • Hold for 5–8 breaths, then gently release and switch sides
    Benefits
    • Improves balance and concentration
    • Strengthens standing leg, ankles, and core
    • Stretches hamstrings, calves, and hips
    • Enhances hip mobility and stability
    Modifications
    • Use a strap around the extended foot if reaching the toe is challenging
    • Keep the lifted knee bent to protect hamstrings and maintain balance
    • Practise near a wall for light support with the free hand
    • Avoid if recovering from hip, hamstring, or ankle injuries
Standing Hand to Big Toe Pose with Belt

Using a yoga belt around the lifted foot in Standing Hand to Big Toe Pose allows you to extend the leg without needing to reach for the toes directly. The belt provides extra length and support, making it easier to maintain an upright posture and steady balance while working on flexibility. This variation helps you focus on alignment through the standing leg and spine, creating a more accessible and controlled experience in the pose.

Supported Standing Hand to Big Toe Pose

Using a yoga belt around the lifted foot and resting the ankle on a chair topped with a folded blanket creates a highly supported variation of Standing Hand to Big Toe Pose. The chair helps take the weight of the raised leg, allowing you to focus on posture, balance, and alignment without straining the hamstrings or hip flexors. The blanket adds comfort around the ankle, while the belt provides gentle support to maintain leg engagement and length through the spine. This variation is ideal for improving flexibility gradually while building stability and confidence in the pose.
