Should I get a thin or thick exercise mat?
The size of mat that you choose depends on the exercise you will undertake. A standard yoga mat is around 4-5mm, and many people find this suitable for a range of exercises. However this does not provide much cushioning, focusing instead on stability and ground contact. For exercises like Pilates, you will need a thicker and more cushioned mat. Additionally, you'll need to consider a thicker mat if you have joint pains or if you'll face issues in kneeling or forearm poses, as a thin one may not offer enough support.

Can a yoga mat be too thick?
Yes, a yoga mat can be too thick. To practise yoga successfully, you will need ample support and stability. If you feel that your hands and feet are sinking into the mat, then it is probably too thick and won't be able to keep you stable. Some practitioners use this type of mat in restorative yoga, or if they need the cushioning to support joints and pressure points, but for most people a thick mat will hinder rather than help.

Which is better a 4mm or 6mm yoga mat?
A 4mm yoga mat offers the most stability, and is more popular as it can accomodate standing and balance poses more easily. If you prefer more comfort and cushioned support, a 6mm yoga mat will be a better option.
