Yogamatters is delighted to be working with US brand Patagonia to introduce items from the Patagonia Activewear & Yoga collection into the Yogamatters clothing range.
Patagonia is well-known and respected all over the world as an established activist company, helping to reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of our planet through employee activism, environmental campaigns and its vision for sustainability.
Patagonia grew out of a small US company that made tools for climbers, based on values reflecting those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers. Over thirty years on, a love of wild and beautiful places still drives the team at Patagonia to participate in the fight to save them.
The company is honest about the fact that its business activity creates pollution as a by-product (as all business production does) and so works steadily to reduce those harms. Recognising that climate change is not an issue that can be tackled outright, Patagonia focuses on the specific things that it can do as a company to reduce, neutralise, or even reverse the root causes of climate change.
Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Patagonia’s mission statement
The Footprint Chronicles® demonstrate Patagonia’s commitment to transparency in its supply chain, promoting fair labour practices, safe working conditions and environmental responsibility throughout the Patagonia supply chain.
• In 1994, Patagonia switched to organically grown cotton in a stand against chemically intensive cotton
• Patagonia is taking the problem of microfibres shedding from synthetic materials and ending up in our oceans seriously and is committed to developing an understanding of what steps can be taken to create impactful solutions.
• A commitment to corporate responsibility ensures Patagonia products are produced under safe, fair, legal and humane working conditions throughout the supply chain. The company keeps close tabs on wages paid in all of its partner factories to address the challenges surrounding a reliable living wage.
Yogamatters is excited to be offering its customers the opportunity to choose yoga wear that supports the yogic principles of compassion for people, animals and planet in such an evident and active way.
The Mindflow shirt and Mindflow tank from Patagonia are both made from 92% recycled polyester and 8% hemp mesh. Recycled polyester fibres are created from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste and worn-out garments, thus causing less air, water and soil contamination compared to using nonrecycled polyester. Hemp is a durable, natural fibre that’s cultivated with low impact on the environment as it requires no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO seeds.
The Centered Crop, the Cross Beta sports bra and the Fleetwith romper are all created from a blend of recycled polyester and spandex jersey, that’s super soft, stretchy, quick-drying and resists wrinkling. The fabric is bluesign® approved, offering the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials that minimise impacts on people and the environment.
The great news is that all the Patagonia yoga wear has been thoughtfully designed with yoga in mind, so it’s not just better for the environment, it’s better for your yoga practice too. The fabrics that Patagonia have created are perfect for yoga, moving with you as you move, wicking moisture and drying quickly to keep you looking and feeling great whatever your practice. Polygiene® permanent odour control uses Polygiene® technology, a naturally occurring antimicrobial that provides effective and permanent odour control by stopping the growth of bacteria in the fabric.
At the start of this new year, what better time could there be to really consider how to put your yogic principles into action by allowing compassion for people, animals and our wonderful planet to influence your choices of what to wear for your yoga practice?
