We’re so excited about the new addition to our Manduka range: the hot new mat that combines art and performance. We’d love to take this opportunity to tell you more.
Manduka mats and yoga accessories are known in the yoga world for their quality and performance. They are still crafted using simple, enduring, natural, and whenever possible, renewable materials. Built on the wisdom and experience of yoga teachers and their students over the last twenty years, Manduka is still evolving and still introducing fantastic new products, such as this fantastic equa® hot yoga mat.
Manduka founder Peter Sterios chose the name Manduka because his teacher and mentor, Shandor Remete, always included the ancient pose, Mandukasana or frog, in his teaching. The first time Peter heard and repeated the name of the pose, he experienced a sense of childlike joy and delight as the sound rolled off his tongue. When you see the upward frog, you know it’s Manduka.
The joy of Manduka is now spoken in so many countries, all over the world.
The equa® hot yoga mat is the latest addition to the Manduka equa® collection, which includes the equa® hand yoga towel and equa® yoga towel. Equa® has become synonymous with sweat activated grip and so is ideal for any dynamic yoga practice which leaves you hot and sweaty. After all, it’s then that a firm, reliable grip becomes all the more important. With the equa® collection, the more you sweat, the firmer the grip.
The equa® hot yoga mat is unique due to its hybrid construction. This mat is part mat, part towel. And not just any mat or any towel. The mat provides a supportive eKO Mat foundation made from sustainable, non-Amazon harvested natural tree rubber. Unlike other rubber mats available today, the foaming agents used to create the eKO are non-toxic, meaning that no toxic chemicals have gone into the manufacturing process to soften the rubber. The soft microfibre equa® towel top layer has a moisture-activated grip, so that the towel becomes slip resistant when wet. Put the two layers together and you have a soft, absorbent and highly durable mat which is 4mm thick, 26” wide x 68” long and can be machine washed cold with like colours or hand washed with mild detergent and hung to dry.
The great news is that the equa® hot yoga mat not only performs but inspires as well! Each mat in the range forms part of a Limited-Edition Artist Capsule Collection. Each beautiful artist design has been created exclusively for this collection. These limited-edition artist designs add creativity and self-expression without sacrificing performance.
Brent Broza is one of the talented artists behind the designs in this collection. Influenced by Californian surf culture, he applies his technique to capture the horizon of the ocean in his work. He sees that art and yoga have so much in common and he uses both as creative forms of relaxation. According to Brent, the inspiration for this design came from the artist Mark Rothko.
Emily Quandahl is an abstract artist whose work is influenced by her musical background. Emily talks about channelling the fluidity of her art throughout her yoga practice.
Rather than force a pose, I let my breath act just as the water does in my artwork, carrying me through a unique practice each time. Emily Quandahl
The movement of water plays a large role in all of Emily’s work. She embraces the way that water carries the colour and settles in a unique pattern each time. A few years ago, Emily founded Cantik Collective, a supportive creative community which serves as a platform for artists to connect and gain exposure, to shine the light on their work. For Manduka, performance is paramount. However, in the modern yoga world, function must also be complemented by fashion. In the case of the brand new equa® hot yoga mat, this means unique artwork created by young talented artists living in the modern world and yet grounded in a yoga practice that inspires their designs.
Combining a love of yoga and art, the equa® hot yoga mat has it all.
