The Yogamatters North East Mala is a gathering together of 200 yoga teachers and students to join together in 108 led sun salutations, meditation and chant. And we’d love you to join us! Come and experience the power of moving together as one – as long as you have had some yoga experience, you will be able to participate. The event is a collective act of service, raising money for the Prison Phoenix Trust, bringing yoga and meditation to prisons across the UK.

In this retreat we will practice Yin/Yang yoga, pranayama, mind training, and methods for awakening the heart. The talks and meditations will focus on the Buddhist teachings of Mindfulness as well as inviting experiential insights with inquiry both in solitude and at times, with a partner. The Sanskrit word for Mindfulness is Smritti, translated as non-forgetting. Mindfulness practice develops a quality of presence in which we remember to pay attention to the immediacy of experience while letting go of all motivations to manipulate the moment, developing the clear capacity to observe inner and outer experience without willful interference. While Mindfulness is a receptive attitude, generative heart based meditations develop a more generous spirit of love and compassion through envisioning what might be possible for us, were we to live from our deepest nature. A facility for balanced curious attention, as well as warm-hearted connectedness is essential for the cultivation of discriminating wisdom, and living a happy life where we can be of benefit to others.

From 3rd – 5th March we are very excited to be welcoming the legendry Sri Dharma Mittra to London for a weekend of workshops.

Indaba Yoga Studio will be taking over the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground to host a series of workshops with Sri Dharma Mittra from Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th March. These workshops will include Asana, Pranayama, Kirtan, Yoga Nidra and Satsang.

Open to all levels, there will be basics workshops that are perfect for those new to Dharma as well as master classes for the more experienced practitioners, with a focus on inversions.

In addition to the workshops, we will be raising awareness for World Peace by attempting to break the World Record for the most people doing a headstand in London. The attempt will be taking place on Sunday 5th March between 2-4pm. Even if you can’t make the workshop you can post a photo of your own headstand on instagram @indabayoga @dharmayoganyc using #turnlondonupsidedown to take part.

This weekend is a unique opportunity to practice with, and learn from one of the true greats of yoga. Workshops start at £10 to £250 for the full weekend.

Standing high on a plateau of the great Vindhychal ranges is the 16th century Castle Bijaipur. Having been occupied by Kings and Queens for centuries, the present Maharaja (a great lover of yoga) has opened the doors of his exquisite castle to the public. Surrounded by villages and breathtaking views of the valley, this really is a very special place.

The daily programme

You will spend eight nights at the Castle and two nights in luxurious tents. The Castle rooms are all clean, well maintained and have both the luxury of modern comforts and the elegance of the past. You will camp (in style) by the lotus lake, amidst the stillness and beauty of the Rajasthan countryside.

There will be two yoga classes each day on the shaded roof terrace of the Castle with stunning views. The classes will focus on movement, gravity, breath and deep relaxation. Each day will begin with early morning meditation and pranayama. This will be followed by a two hour hatha flow class and then breakfast.

The evening yoga will be a more restorative and softening scaravelli practice, working on releasing area’s of deep rooted tension and resistance, allowing emotional blockages to unfold and reawakening the body from deep within. The classes will be suitable for all levels and experience. There will be one yoga free day.

You may also spend a little time during the holiday, whilst staying by the lake, exploring the beauty of silence.

Things to do

Castle Bijaipur offers an action-packed holiday or a lazy pool-side holiday – the choice is yours.

There are jeep safaris to experience nearby wildlife and bird-life, treks to waterfalls and the surrounding villages, temples and wonderful Marwari horses. You can explore the countryside on day trips to Chittorgarh Fort and the stunning city of Udaipur and there are opportunities for cooking lessons, bicycle rides and table tennis.

There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Castle; even just a stroll into the surrounding village is a feast for the body, mind and soul… talking of which, massages and other treatments are also available at an extra cost.


The hotel itself has a wonderful swimming pool, beautiful gardens to sit in, musicians to entertain you every evening and delicious food with secret recipes that have been in the family for decades.

Following the success of our March retreat the Horn family return to host another transformative weekend of Yoga and Meditation at the stunning Wasing Estate in Berkshire, a short journey from London. November 11th – 13th 2016.

Over the weekend you will stay in beautiful accommodation and be treated to delicious food cooked by the amazing chef Kirstan Horn. (Yes he’s my brother but is the best chef I know!)

SALUTE TO THE SUN 2016 will take place at magnificent 17th century plantation house, Holders House.  Set in its own stunning grounds on the wonderful west coast of the island, the house has a beautiful verandah looking out to sea, which provides the perfect backdrop for the twice daily flowing yoga practise with Judith Daniel. It is elegant but comfortable with lots of sumptuous sofa areas for relaxation and reflection, gorgeous dining spaces, stylish bedrooms and a wonderful pool (photo below).  The gentle waters of the Caribbean sea beckon a 15 minute walk or short drive away.  Fabulous raw food expert Manuela Scalini will again delight with menus which are delicious and divine and highly skilled massage therapist, Claudia Tessarin, will be on hand to soothe away any aches and pains.  Additionally, special guest yoga teacher Mary Young will once again  be part of the team, adding her own yoga flow to the mix and also introducing some Yin/Yang yoga to the afternoon sessions.


As we salute the sun, we are bowing to the divinity within and acknowledging our oneness with the brilliance of the sun and its creation.  In our practise, the sun salutation brings about the harmony of body, breath and mind in a seamless flow, strengthening the body and opening us up to the beauty all around us.  Throughout the week, we will explore many ways of saluting the sun, as it rises and as is sets.  We will bask in its healing rays and experience its radiance in the lush and vibrant nature of the colourful Caribbean.
