Big Yoga Read: #5
In this essential book, Dona Holleman blends her unique philosophy of yoga with substantial and detailed descriptions of the asanas. First published as 'Dancing the Body of Light' (from which the central chapter on asana is reprinted) this new edition contains about one third completely new material and an audio recording.

Drawing from over 50 years of experience in yoga practice and teaching, Dona's ambitious and uncompromising book, written in a crisp, clear and no nonsense style, is a must for all serious yoga practitioners and teachers. Includes 'Flame of Freedom', a 5-part audio CD of Dona Holleman talking about peripheral vision and hearing, breathing and other topics complementing the book, including practical exercises.

The 7 vital principals can be appreciated by a student beginning yoga or by the accomplished yogi with great benefit. Dona is a magnificent teacher and this book is a beautiful, powerful result of a seasoned practice and experience with reknown teachers...

By following the instructions on asanas from this book I found that I was moving awareness according to the directions and that I was developing an incredible amount of awareness inside my body. It was this sensitivity of inner awareness that brought my practice to an internal meditation, not a periforal movement of forcing the body into an asana. The form of the asana develops from the inside not the periphery. It is a wonderfully liberating feeling which I certainly found therapeutic. I feel sure that many practitioners of Yoga have experienced this same wonderful awareness which accounts for the wide apppeal of this book.

This is a book which takes the mystery out of yoga. It is a textbook for life, lived fully in the physical body. The asana instructions are elegantly simple, based on a clear understanding of anatomy. However, the unique gift of this book is the author's ability to distill her comprehensive knowledge of this ancient tradition into a compelling mind-body experience which embraces all spiritual traditions. Her seven principles are the yogic exercise for being in the present moment, and when practiced are a gift for a life of freedom.
