Yin Yoga: Outline of a Quiet Practice

Yin Yoga: Outline of a Quiet Practice
Big Yoga Read: #15All forms of yoga emphasize either muscle (Yang) or connective tissue (Yin). Today, all the popular forms are Yang, but balancing the two has many benefits in any Yoga practice - particularly for meditation. Connective tissue does not stretch or respond to brief stresses as muscle will, so Yin postures are held a long time, with the muscles relaxed. Acupuncture meridians are also in connective tissue, and Yin Yoga is designed specifically to stimulate them.

I borrowed this book from another yoga teacher and ended up buying it as I thought it was a very easy to follow reference guide. There are sample routines and postures are explained. Great intro to yin yoga. Paul Grilley is fab!

Just learned about Yin yoga. As I have been focussing in a lot of yang-things in my life, it felt like a good idea. This is a very clear book, very easy to read. The extensive part on the asanas are good, but I miss the emphasis sometimes: what part should I stretch? My back or my legs? Because I don't quite bend like the writers beautiful wife in the pictures :-) The sequences are quite long. but you can shorten them by not repeating the asana's.
