This would be a good resource for trainee teachers, teacher trainers and any one else who needs to 'look inside' the postures to see which muscles are being used. The colour coding is useful to see which muscles are actively stretching. One criticism would be that although at the back of the book there is a full breakdown of muscle names, the muscles are not labelled on the diagrams, so if you don't know the muscles already, you would have to keep looking to the back of the book to see which is which. This is not so easy if you have bought the book to learn about the muscles. It is also quite expensive if I am looking to recommend it for trainees.
Hilary MacRae
I bought this as I wanted to support my renewed interest in Yoga and I thought a more detailed view of the mechanics would help. It fulfills all my expectations, and more. The fascinating illustrations are less representations of how the poses look, more visuals of how they feel. My teacher has seen the book and thoroughly approves.
Lyn R
An excellent resource for yoga teachers and those wishing to deepen their understanding of what the body is actually doing in each asana. However, one quite important criticism (in agreement with a previous review) is that not labelling the muscles in the diagrams means that the book is not that user-friendly. Unless you are very familiar with the muscular system and know all the muscle names you have to keep flipping back and forth to find out; I find this frustrating and it puts me off using this otherwise brilliant book.
