The eKO Lite Mat is a lighter version of the most durable, high-performance and eco-friendly mat on the market.

Developed over 3 years by a team of yoga teachers, the natural and biodegradable eKo mat provides the ultimate combination of cushion and grip using the most environmentally-friendly methods possible. Compared to the original Manduka Eko mat, which weighs 2.95kg, the eKO lite weighs 1.7kg for easier transportation.

The top surface has a naturally 'grippy' 'Sea Grass' surface texture which also has a closed-cell surface to keep out moisture (sweat) from seeping into the mat and breeding bacteria for better durability.

The dual function cushion (bottom layer) is a thicker natural rubber with superior cushioning that is achieved by a toxic-free softening process, free of foaming agents and plasticizers found in other mats.

And the stretch-resistant scrim (centre) uses biodegradable cotton and recycled polyester blend to bind the top and bottom layers together with heating process, eliminating need for toxic glues.

Natural & biodegradable: Made from biodegradable, non-amazon harvested tree rubber with non-toxic foaming agents and non-AZO dyes. This natural, biodegradable material won't flake or fade and will leave no footprint in landfills.

Due to the properties of natural rubber, all rubber mats have a certain smell. However, Manduka's eKO mat has been engineered so that the initial scent fades over time with use. The smell will dissipate within 2-3 weeks, or sooner if you leave your mat unrolled when storing. To speed up this process, you can also wipe the mat down with a solution of 50/50 organic cider vinegar and water or Manduka's mat restore (a vinegar based solution). It is important to note that the smell is natural and not a result of off-gassing from toxic chemicals.

I've been a fan of Manduka for years and I'm happy to see that yogamatters sell their products now. I used to have my friend in the US bring Manduka stuff whenever she visited. I have a black mat, which I use at home and a prolite, which I use at the studio. They are both amazing products. I bought this ekolite from yogamatters and I love it too. For a thin mat, it provides lots of cushion, it stays at the same spot on the floor throughout the practice, and it's very sticky. It's not as good as as the Black mat or the prolite, but apart from that, it's better than any other mat, I've owned.

I bought this to use as a second mat where I need more cushioning. It works well like this, but I also find it a great mat to use on its own for all the reasons already given by others.

I just took this mat travelling with me, it's strong, grippy and attractive. I'm quite heavy and other travel mats I've used don't cut it, they move around and stretch too much. It's good to be using natural rubber. I have the black/grey one, It does get marked very quickly with footprints etc but I think that's inevitable when you're not on a pristine floor. Not incredibly light, I knew that when I bought it, but by comparison with the manduka pro which is my regular practice mat, fantastic. Highly recommended.
